WASHINGTON —Today President Barack Obama endorsed Democrat Al Muratsuchi in his race for Assembly for the 66th District. Muratsuchi is among a select group of state legislative candidates from around the country to be endorsed by the President.
This contest has caught national attention because Muratsuchi is the only bi-partisan, moderate candidate in the race who will get things done for the 66th district.
“I am proud to have the support of our great President Barack Obama. The voters of the 66th District deserve a candidate who will fight for them again in Sacramento. I am the candidate who will protect a woman’s right to choose and Planned Parenthood funding, create jobs and improve our public schools. I will also stand up to powerful special interests to fight for clean air, water, and beaches," said Muratsuchi.
“We are thrilled that President Obama is endorsing our candidates in some of the most competitive races across the country,” said Jessica Post, Executive Director of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee. “His endorsement highlights how crucial state legislative elections are to building on the progress the President has achieved and to continuing to move our nation forward.”
Muratsuchi represented the 66th Assembly District from 2012 to 2014, and is widely considered the number one priority and opportunity for state Assembly leadership to regain a Democratic seat. Muratsuchi has lived in the South Bay for the past twenty years with his wife and daughter. He is a Deputy Attorney General with the California Department of Justice, a former Torrance School Board member, and a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and UCLA School of Law.
